Examples include phlebitis, the inflammation of the walls of a vein; phlebotomy (Greek ‑tomia, cutting), the surgical opening or puncture of a vein, also called venesection; phlebography, radiography of the veins; phlebosclerosis (Greek sklērōsis, from sklēroun, harden), hardening of the walls of veins; phlebothrombosis, obstruction of a vein by a blood clot.
