Pressure.
Greek piezein, press or squeeze.
A substance that is piezoelectric is able to convert mechanical signals (such as sound waves) into electrical signals, and vice versa; a piezometer measures the pressure of a liquid or gas, or something related to pressure (such as the compressibility of liquid); piezoresistance is a change in the electrical resistance of a solid when subjected to mechanical stress.
