bor(o)-
Boron.
[English boron, from borax, a white mineral which contains boron.]
The element boron was named in imitation of carbon, which it resembles in some respects. Examples of compounds include borosilicate glass, a low-melting glass made from a mixture of silica and boric oxide; borohydride, a compound containing the radical —BH4; borate, a salt in which the anion contains both boron and oxygen, as in borax; and borane, one of a set of unstable binary compounds of boron and hydrogen.
