An erythrocyte is a red blood cell; erythropoiesis (Greek poiēsis, making) is the production of red blood cells; erythropoietin is a hormone that increases this rate; the adjective erythroid refers to erythrocytes; an erythroblast is an immature erythrocyte; erythromelalgia (Greek melos, limb, plus algos, pain) is painful distension of the blood vessels of the skin, usually in the extremities; erythrophobia is a morbid fear of blushing or of the colour red.
