-faction

Nouns of action or associated state.

Latin facere, to do or make.

English has adopted most words in this ending from Latin originals that already contain the root, such as benefaction, the making of a gift or donation (literally, ‘doing good to’, from Latin bene, well); satisfaction (Latin satisfacere, satisfy), fulfilment of one's wishes or expectations; stupefaction (Latin stupefacere, be amazed), the action or state of being stunned or insensible. Many have related verbs in ‑fy and adjectives in ‑facient.
