Examples include acrid (Latin acer, acri‑, sharp or pungent), morbid (Latin morbidus, from morbus, disease), putrid (Latin putridus, from putrere, to rot), stupid (Latin stupidus, from stupere, be amazed or stunned), and torrid (Latin torridus, from torrere, parch or scorch).
