Examples include pyaemia (US pyemia) (Greek haima, blood), blood poisoning caused by pus-forming bacteria from an abscess; pyoderma (Greek derma, skin), a skin infection with formation of pus; pyogenic, involving or relating to the production of pus; pyorrhoea (US pyorrhea)(Greek rhoia, flux), another term for periodontitis, inflammation of the tissue around the teeth; pyuria (Greek ouron, urine), the presence of pus in the urine, typically from bacterial infection.
