taxo- Also taxi-.

Order, arrangement, classification.

[Greek taxis, orientation, arrangement.]

The only common words in these forms are taxonomy (Greek -nomia, distribution), the branch of science concerned with classification, especially of organisms, and taxidermy (Greek derma, skin), the art of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of animals with lifelike effect. Taximeter derives instead from French taxe, a tariff.
