Tetanus.
Greek tetanos, muscular spasm.
Tetanospasmin and tetanolysin (Greek lusis) are toxins produced by tetanus bacteria in an infected wound; the former causes the spasms typical of the disease while the latter causes local destruction of tissues. Adjectives relating to tetanus are tetanoid and tetanic.
