The sea.
Greek thalassa, sea.
Thalassaemia (US thalassemia) (Greek haima, blood) is a member of a group of hereditary diseases caused by faulty haemoglobin synthesis, so named because they were first found around the Mediterranean; thalassotherapy is medical and cosmetic treatment by bathing in sea water; thalassocracy (Greek ‑kratia, power, rule) is sovereignty over the seas.
