A ventricle.
Latin ventriculus, diminutive of venter, belly.
A ventricle is a hollow or cavity in an organ, in particular the main chambers of the heart and four natural cavities in the brain; the adjective for either of these is ventricular. Medical terms containing this form usually refer to those in the brain: ventriculography is radiography of them; ventriculostomy (Greek stoma, mouth) is an operation to introduce a hollow needle into a ventricle for a variety of purposes, such as draining cerebrospinal fluid.
