An animal that is viviparous (Latin parus, bearing) bears live young which have developed inside the body of the parent; to vivify is to enliven or animate; vivisection (Latin secare, to cut, literally to dissect living things), is a pejorative term for the practice of performing operations on live animals for experimentation or scientific research.
