This prefix sometimes appears hyphenated with an adjective for another country to suggest a combined or linked character, as in Franco-German or Franco-Russian, or in phrases such as Franco-Prussian War. Other instances include Francophile, a lover of France and things French; and francophone, French-speaking, as of some African countries or French-speaking Canada.
