Forming nouns.

French ‑osité or Latin ‑ositas.

Nouns in ‑osity are formed from adjectives. One set comes from those ending in ‑ose (see ‑ose1), such as adiposity (from adipose, body tissue used for the storage of fat), bellicosity (from bellicose, warlike), or verbosity (from verbose). A second set derives from adjectives in ‑ous, such as curiosity (from curious), generosity (from generous), monstrosity (from monstrous), and pomposity (from pompous). See also ‑ity.
