Latin pilus, hair.

A plant or animal that is pilose is covered with long soft hairs; pilomotor nerves act on muscle fibres around the base of hairs in the skin and can cause them to rise, causing gooseflesh; the adjective pilonidal (Latin nidus, a nest) refers to a clump of hair; pilosebaceous refers to hair follicles and their related sebaceous glands.
